Drunk driving is a big issue in the United States. In 2016 alone over one million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of some form of drug or alcohol *. With today’s technology it is much simpler to order a Uber or a ride home. Well some people still think they have the ability to drive fine while intoxicated. A family was nearly hit right before a drunk driver got t-boned.
A family almost met their end due to this intoxicated driver. The three were given the green light to cross the street. They used the crosswalk and slowly started to make their way to the other side.
They stepped off the curb and shortly after the driver of the Jeep decided to run a red light. Instead of stopping they sped straight through the intersection. Luckily a Chevy Cruze, which had the right of way, was continuing through the intersection. The car t-boned the drunk driver and forced them off the road which barely missed the family.
The family rushes across the street after the incident. Police arrested the drunk driver, Ernesto Otanez Oveso, and charged him with aggravated assault, DUI and unlawful possession of a firearm. They located the firearm in the Jeep after a search but Ernesto had fled from the scene. He was followed by a witness but being aggravated Ernesto pulled a knife.
The passengers of the Chevy Cruze received only minor injuries. “I kind of think it was meant to happen,” said the driver of the Cruze.
I’m sure that they held each other a little closer that night. They are lucky to be alive!
