Uber not responsible for fatal 2018 Accident

The Yavapai County Attorney stated in a letter that there is “no basis” for criminal liability for a 2018 Arizona crash that involved an Uber Autonomous car. The backup driver of the vehicle was streaming a tv show on their cellphone during the time of the crash. Although there are autonomous features of the car there is still manual input

Police say the the accident could have been completely avoidable. The 2017 Volvo XC90 was in autonomous mode when it struck a pedestrian crossing the road with his bike. Hulu stated that the user was streaming The Voice when the accident occurred. The Yavapai County Attorney also stated that Rafael Vasquez, the backup driver, should be referred to the Tempe police for additional investigation
