Billy Idol and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio promote campaign for anti-car idling. Encourage neighbors to snitch on each other.

Some states see idling as an issue. It’s known that you shouldn’t idle your car in a closed space. Carbon Monoxide is produced by your car when it’s running. This gas is deadly. New York has passed laws that stated that idling your car for too long is illegal. Recently Billy Idol and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio promoted a campaign to reduce idling vehicles.

In New York it is illegal to let your car idle for more than three minutes. If you are in a private or public school parking lot the maximum idling time shoots down to 1 minute. After that you can be fined $350 to
$2000. Some vehicles are not subject to this law. This includes emergency vehicles and vehicles that require their engine to run to use equipment.

The campaign instructed people to tattle on their neighbors if they idled their car too long. In return the snitch would receive a bounty up 25% of the fine. In 2018 it was reported that a man had received $5000 from this program.

Although idling can be bad we probably shouldn’t be turning our backs on one another. Aren’t we supposed to take care of our neighbors? What are your thoughts on this issue? Let us know in the comments below!
