Two GM employees arrested for racing new 2020 corvette c8s on public roads

Designing a new vehicle can be exciting. Especially when you are in the testing faze. You get to find out what works and what doesn’t. Usually you take the car to the track and really dial it in. Although in this scenario two GM employees took the testing to public roads and paid the price.

The two employees named Alexander Thim and Mark Derkatz were in Bowling Green Kentucky where the incident took place. Funny enough Bowling Green is where most of the corvette c8s are being made. It’s not exactly known if they were testing or just messing around with the vehicles but they decided to race them on the road. They exceeded the 45mph speed limit by 26mph. Unfortunately for them anything over 26mph in Bowling Green is cause for arrest and the cops impound the cars.

At one point is was reported that one of the cars hit 120mph and the other hit 100mph. The two were arrested and charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and racing a motor vehicle on a public road. Both of the corvettes were impounded and the two were jailed. They were released the next day on a $1000 bond. GM made a statement saying,

We are aware of an incident involving our test vehicles and are currently investigating.. Safety remains our overriding priority at General Motors. We have no further comment at this time.

Would you test out the new corvette if it meant spending the night in jail? Let us know in the comments below!
